We will pay for the energy from January 1st

10/12/2018

Confirmed, now finite. From 1 January, we will pay for energy a little more than this year. Renewal refers to all energies, including water and sewage.

New energy price rises have been talked longer. Repeated forecasts have finally been met and, after yesterday’s statements by representatives of the Office for Network Regulation (URSO), are officially confirmed. As of January 1, 2019, Slovak households will pay for all energy from gas and electricity to water and heat.

Average year-on-year increase in energy prices since January:

Electricity + 5,66 %
Gas + 5,67 %
Heat + 4,70 %
Water + 1,70 %

The price of the world markets is rising

Not regulation by URSO, the cost could be even higher, at least as the Office’s management claims. Growth, which came after a pause of several years, stems from the price development of commodities on world markets. They have grown considerably, for example in gas and electricity, to over 20%, which allegedly has led to an increase in end-user prices.

The amount of the price increase resulting from the terms of the URSO may not be final. This is just the upper limit that energy suppliers have to respect, which does not mean that prices can not grow by a few tenths of a percentage point. This depends on the suppliers themselves and their access to customers.
